Hi Kelly!
I just received my tax rebate, but it was for $600 and I am a single mom so I though it would be $900. I was just wondering how I go about figuring out which amount is correct. Will I receive the $300 later for my son?
You are the only website I have been able to find useful when it comes to anything about taxes. I appreciate it… Thank you!
Taxgirl says:
You should receive all of your rebate in one payment unless you specifically directed that your 2007 tax refund be split (this is unusual and you would know if you had done so).
Why is My Rebate So Small?
Posted by Ralf Yoffe | Under Company Profiles, Taxes Monday Nov 19, 2007I’ve received a ton of complaints about the size of the rebate checks once actually in hand. Apparently, a number of folks have not received the anticipated amount…
Be sure and check out this list of why your rebate might be less than anticipated and give the IRS tax rebate calculator a whirl.
To date, the most common mistakes in figuring the rebate that I’ve heard deal with gross income and tax liability. Remember, if you make too much or pay too little in tax, you might not be eligible for the full amount.

The IRS has a feature available on its web site where you can check the status of your rebate. Visit “Where’s My Stimulus Payment?” and have on hand your legal name, filing status, Social Security number and number of exemptions shown on your 2007 return. You must have filed your tax return at least six weeks prior in order to get an update.
If your information is not available (mine wasn’t), you’ll receive a message telling you to check the Payment Schedule.

It will be interesting to see how the market reacts - if at all - to the anticipated buoyed spending.
Of course, as President Bush has now acknowledged that most folks will spend the rebates on necessities such as food and gasoline, it seems that the stimulus package has become more of a “rescue package.” Most of my readers had previously indicated that they would spend the money to pay down debt - that was before the price of oil shot up.
