How to Write Intelligently from the Heart
Posted by Ralf Yoffe | Under Business Saturday Jun 30, 2007From the Heart
Words tell us how to . . . how to be beautiful, how to fall in love, how to make money by working online. Words try to move us to be happier, be greener, be more active in someone’s cause. Words us connect with each other. Words appraise us, explain us, and help us describe who we are. Words are how we find out what we need to know.
Yet there are far more words to read than there is time.
We can think and write. We can craft our sentences to be clever. We can make sure that each part is factually, structurally, gramatically correct. But clever and accurate only go so far in satisfying readers. If we want our writing to resonate long after, our words need to come from the heart.

Posted by Ralf Yoffe | Under Commentary, Company Profiles, Economy & Government, Taxes Friday Jun 29, 2007If you had asked me, before today, what the single most important issue would be in the upcoming presidential election, I would have said the economy, hands down. For purposes of the election, it’s more important to voters than Iraq, than health care, than the environment (though clearly those issues are intertwined with the economy). But that was before “the speech” - you know the one that I’m talking about. I’m referring to the speech that Obama made at the Constitution Center in Philadelphia, the one where he talked about an issue that people didn’t really think he was going to talk about: race.

Posted by Ralf Yoffe | Under Business Advice, Earnings, Investing, Resources Friday Jun 29, 2007Jamie McIntyre is really such a wealth of information that’s it’s tough to talk in summary. On the other hand, breaking down the advice, philosophies, and methods Jamie McIntyre presents through his 21st Century Academy on a blog is helpful because it gives us the chance to chew on things a bit and digest the information he’s put before us.
Maybe you remember a few weeks back when I was talking about becoming a full-time investor and the 5 levels of financial freedom that we all experience at some point in our lives (or at least, hope to experience; your chances of actually getting there will be much greater if you take advantage of what Jamie and the 21st Century Academy is offering).

Posted by Ralf Yoffe | Under Business Advice, Company Profiles, Economy & Government, Finance, Funds, Money Matters, Taxes Thursday Jun 28, 2007Taxpayer asks:
Dear Taxgirl,
In the last couple months, I’ve received a spammy e-mail asking me to sign an “electronic petition” against a tax increase so the government can provide health care to illegal aliens. I deleted this whenever I got it, because it just sounds like some urban legend to me. I mean who in their right mind would propose this?
The other day in the US mail I received an update from my congressman which included a survey for his constituents to fill out and mail back. One of the questions was “Do you support a 71 billion dollar tax increase to provide government healthcare for illegal aliens?”. In my research I can not find any such pending legislation. Have you heard of anything or do you know where I could look besides the websites of the house & senate? I think my representative may just be trying to stir the pot. I do plan to contact his office, but would like to be armed with as much info as possible before I hold his feet to the fire.

Posted by Ralf Yoffe | Under Business, Company Profiles, Money Matters, Taxes Wednesday Jun 27, 2007Greetings from the UK! Yep, hubby and I packed up and headed across the pond to Jolly ol’ England for a few days of rest and relaxation (as well as a hint of business).
I won’t regale you with the saga of what’s really happening here (lots of sick travelers, present company included, ridiculously fickle appliances - nothing for nothing but centuries of civilization here in the UK and the plumbing is still a mystery - and what the BBC is calling “the worst storm of the winter”). In fact, I’ll bet you’re thinking that I haven’t had much time for tax at all. C’mon, there’s always time for tax.

Posted by Ralf Yoffe | Under Business, Company Profiles, Finance, Marketing, Taxes, U.S. Markets Wednesday Jun 27, 2007Tisha Kulak works with a credit card service, Creditorweb. Recently she asked if she might put together something about small business and spending as a guest post for this blog. I encouraged her to do just that.
START UPS NEED SUPER CONTROL OVER SPENDING
by Tisha Kulak
Small, start up business owners need to be conscious of spending.
Just because a credit card is in the name of your business, you can’t go on spending sprees and expect to be in the clear. Credit cards designed for small businesses can help you get through some rough patches in the beginning. You may need to finance some equipment to get you started or perhaps charge some marketing expenses to a company card.

A few days ago I was honestly prepared to rip a product to shreds. It wasn't that it was a bad product, but it wasn't as well prepared as it should have been, and from what I can tell it was due to an honest communication error between a well respected online marketer and his programming team.
But before I talk about the product itself, I am going to give you a little history lesson.

Posted by Ralf Yoffe | Under Business, Company Profiles, Economy & Government, Industry, Taxes Wednesday Jun 20, 2007Yahoo! has confirmed that it will move its European headquarters from London to Geneva - just a few skips away from Google, which is now located in Zurich. Yahoo! claims that the move is to “increase financial performance” which has been widely translated as related to taxes.
The announcement from Yahoo! was made only a few days after the Chancellor in the UK presented the new budget. In the midst of a slowing economy in the UK, business leaders and Conservative MPs have been asking for tax cuts for businesses in order to stimulate the economy. Specifically, the Treasury was asked to cut corporation tax to 18%. Cuts were only made from 30% to 28%.
