Window and treatments and shutters and box

Thursday May 31, 2007

Composite shutters are made from OSB type boards. Basically they take sawdust and fine wood chips, mix them with a glue type resin and then mold them into boards, slats and other pieces needed for the construction of shutters.
The polite entity about the resulting boards is that they are straight and actual. This type of board is used spell the construction of cornice boards since existing stays straight. Most types of plywood will twist prominence a heartbeat and accomplish terrible cornice boards.

Snipes Promises Appeal

Saturday May 26, 2007

After being sentenced to the maximum three years in federal prison for his convictions on tax evasion charges, Wesley Snipes vowed to appeal.

Interestingly, just before the sentence was announced, Snipes asked the court to show mercy and paid $5 million. His checks were cashed - to be applied towards the amount Snipes allegedly owes - but Snipes still received the maximum sentence.

It’s nearly impossible to tell what Snipes owes at this point. Prosecutors allege that Snipes has, over the years, hidden at least $41 million from taxing authorities, much of it overseas. Snipes’ lawyers dispute that amount, claiming that the amount actually due is less than a quarter of a million dollars (a claim that reeks a bit, considering Snipes’ $5 million payment today).

Oh My!! EVEN MORE Brilliant Link Stories!!!

Thursday May 24, 2007

The Stories Continue . . .

You might remember the A Puzzler for a Fun Post and a Little Labor Day Link Love. I offered you a fill-in-the-blank story and a directory of links with which to complete it. I even wrote one of my own for the fun!

I set up some silly rules and invited you to do the same thing. Then, oh, then I said these fateful words, “I’ll do something creative with the links you leave.” You were fabulous and wrote wonderful tales — each one uniquely belonging in a line with the rest. It was obvious that I had my work cut out for me.

Tid-bits from SOBCon ‘07 - An Insider’s Perspective

Wednesday May 23, 2007

I know many of you might be SOBConned out at this point but I thought I’d share a bit about what the conference looked like from my perspective. Call it an insider’s view of the conference.

So here are a few tid-bits from what I saw at the conference that you might not have seen:

Liz ended up getting to the hotel way later and way more stressed than she planned because there was a service failure in the shipment of the purple bags. Long story short, after spending hours on the phone tracking them down she managed to get a commitment for them to be delivered to the hotel early Friday morning. And fortunately they were.

Banned By Google

Thursday May 17, 2007

It happens... even to the most accomplished SEO professionals.Last August Dan Thies revealed the amazing story about how Brad Fallon, Stompernet founder and owner of MyWeddingFavors.com was kicked out of Google, because of people exploiting bugs in Google. For many people the "proxy hacking" explanation was extremely complicated to understand (I struggled), but what wasn't revealed was how Brad's company survived (and grew) without his top Google listings. It is now revealed, in a 54 minute video with typical (extraordinary) Stompernet style.

Charity begins at (the retirement) home

Thursday May 17, 2007

Making charitable gifts got a little easier this year. Well, for seniors anyway.

On August 17, 2006, President Bush signed what was dubbed the Pension Protection Act of 2006. Among other things, the Act finally allows taxpayers the option of making a charitable gift directly from retirement assets without incurring an income tax liability.

The old law used to work like this: Bob is 75 years old and he wants to give $5,000 to Red Cross. In years past, he would have withdrawn the $5,000 from his IRA, reported that $5,000 as taxable income, paid the tax for the withdrawal and then taken a charitable deduction for the gift to Red Cross.

Court Ruling? Court Schmuling. Texas Decides to Collect Stripper Tax Anyway.

Thursday May 17, 2007

The Texas Entertainment Association (TEA) has announced that adult cabarets (or as most people call them, strip clubs) received notification from the Texas Comptroller that the $5 stripper tax is due despite a court ruling that the tax is unconstitutional.

A Texas judge had ordered that the, “Defendants are permanently enjoined from assessing or collecting the tax imposed by sections 47.051-.056.” However, the Texas Attorney General’s Office filed an appeal on April 7. Letters were subsequently issued that while the appeal was pending, the tax would still be collected.

756 Goes On the Chopping Block.

Tuesday May 15, 2007

As a bunch of folks predicted, Barry Bonds’ record-breaking home run ball (756) will be sold at auction.

The fan who caught it, 21 year old Matt Murphy, says he can’t afford to keep it because of the tax consequences. He reportedly said that “several people told him he would be taxed on the souvenir” if he kept it. Maybe he’s reading the tax blogs - most practitioners, including me, believe the ball to be taxable at receipt.
