3. The Head Types

Monday Feb 26, 2007

Enneagram Series by Mark McGuinness

Having introduced the three Enneagram Heart types in my last post, I’ll now move on to the three thinking or ‘Head types’.

The minimum you need to know about the Enneagram symbol is that it is divided into three parts, representing the three ‘centres’ or types of intelligence in human beings - emotional, mental and physical. Another way of looking at the three centres is to see them as corresponding to different types of action - relating, thinking and doing.

Crikey! Croc Hunter’s Zoo Involved in Tax Scandal

Sunday Feb 25, 2007

Crikey! The Australia Zoo, which was founded in the 1970s by Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin’s parents, has acknowledged that it was the victim “a highly sophisticated case of deception.” The zoo is currently being investigation as part of a massive tax-evasion scandal.

The zoo has been charged with $2.3 million in outstanding debts allegedly owed to overseas banks and companies in an effort to avoid tax. Irwin’s widow, Terri Irwin, has been named separately in suits alleging similar debts totaling $55,000. The investments in questions were made through a Singapore based company during Steve Irwin’s lifetime. However, neither the Crocodile Hunter nor his estate were named in court documents as a party to the investigation as his signature was not on any of the papers. It is thought that Steve Irwin left the financial details of the zoo up to his wife.

Are Sales Tax Rates Going Up As the Economy Goes Down?

Tuesday Feb 20, 2007

The semester before I left for law school, my best friend, Bren, and I packed our stuff into my old Buick Regal (the former family car), affectionately named “Bessie” because she looked like a cow. We were on a mission to examine East Coast law schools that were still on my short list. It was easy enough to noodle up I-95 from Raleigh, NC, with stops in, among other places, Washington, DC (to visit Georgetown) and Philadelphia, PA (to visit Temple). We also had a trip to Atlantic City planned but that’s another post altogether…

Liechtenstein Coming Around?

Sunday Feb 18, 2007

After vowing not to change its banking system despite a tax scandal spiraling out of control, the principality of Liechstenstein may be changing its mind.

Prime Minister Otmar Hasler has reportedly told the Swiss newspaper Neue Zuercher Zeitung that “the reform process has already begun and I support it being continued.” He says that he is hopeful for a “reasonable compromise” that allows for some transparency that countries like Germany are demanding but also a measure of banking secrecy which would allow Liechtenstein to continue its status as a financial power.
